Thursday, April 7, 2011
In only his second race of the Carolina Competition Sports (CCS) series, Houston Smith of Corrie Stott Racing captured his first pole of the year. In securing the pole position Smith also gave Stott's team their first pole in three years. Smith drove the number 02 car in the Limited Late Model Sportsman Division at the Dillon Motor Speedway this past Saturday. The race, which consisted of thirty five laps, had a green - white checkered finish with only one caution flag on lap thirty three. Smith, who finished second, ran a solid race and was even able to get under the leader on the white flag lap and challenge him for first.
"I was extremely pleased at how well Houston kept his composure throughout the entire race", said team owner Corrie Stott. While Smith enjoys being behind the wheel, he also takes great pride in watching and learning as much as possible about the set-up of the car. "This was the best handling car I have driven so far", said Smith. "I cannot thank Corrie and the team enough for all the hard work they put into the car prior to race night", added Smith. Smith also credited his crew chief, Clay Ward for coaching him prior to the race and providing him with feedback once the race was completed. Smith thanked his sponsors Chevron Olympic Oil, Chizmark Larson Insurance, Stilo Helmets, Schroth Safety Belts and Oakley Eye-wear. "I also want to thank my parents and Tonya McCallister of McCallister Precision Marketing (MPM) for all of their support", Smith said.
