Smith Adds His Name To A Stellar List Of Honorees At Georgia's Hall Of Fame

Remember when you were a young driver and your mom told you, that lead foot of yours, would get you in trouble?  Well, thank goodness 15 year old Houston Smith's mother, Tina, encouraged him to "put it to the floor" at a very early age.

Houston's desire to drive fast started at age 8 and he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

"Well, I like to drive fast but I want the police officers to know that it's only when I am on the race track", he says, with a laugh.

Smith has won numerous awards the past few years and this past Saturday those awards were put on display in "The New Generation" section of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Museum.  The museum gives the background heritage of Georgia Racing, from Moon shining to the legacy of Bill Elliot and the history on all Georgia racing from dirt to asphalt.

Smith, who was on hand at Saturdays festivities, spent time with fans talking and signing autographs.

"It was really exciting  to look at the display and see my trophies, championship jackets and other awards on display", said Smith.

Smith, who races for Corrie Stott Racing, said that being at the museum and seeing the displays of such greats  as Raymond Parks, Gober Sosebee and Red Vogt reminded him of the importance of staying focused.

"While there may be days that I get a little down if I didn't win a race, I remind myself that anyone can get down but I want to be known for getting back up", Smith added.

It is pretty evident that having been chosen to display his awards, so early in his career, that he's got that "getting back up" thing, mastered pretty good.  This is one "lead foot" that we will certainly keep an eye on the next few years.
