Wyatt Coffey shifts focus to Dirt Late Model racing, effective immediately

WAYNESBORO, Va. – Sometimes success leads to a change of plans. That’s exactly the case for rising racer Wyatt Coffey.

Coffey, the reigning INEX Bandolero Bandit National champion, is shifting his focus to Dirt Late Model racing and closing the book on his Bandolero career.

“I started racing Dirt Late Models last year and I’ve already won several times at a few different tracks,” said Coffey, who recently secured three consecutive Dirt Late Model wins at Natural Bridge Speedway and Beckley Motor Speedway. “We started the year planning to race the Bandolero and Dirt Late Model, but we’ve been so good with the Dirt Late Model that we’ve decided to go all in with it.”

The 12-year-old from Waynesboro, Virginia, ends his Bandolero racing career on a high note after an incredible 2024 season that saw him win not just the INEX Bandolero Bandit National championship but also the Charlotte Motor Speedway Summer Shootout Bandolero Bandit championship, the Thursday Thunder Bandolero Bandit championship at Atlanta Motor Speedway and the Atlanta Motor Speedway track championship.

Before deciding to shift his entire focus to Dirt Late Model racing, Coffey had been splitting his time between Dirt Late Models and Bandoleros, scoring six Bandolero wins before shifting gears to focus solely on Dirt Late Models.

That kind of success wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Mike Gordon, who mentored and guided Coffey during his Bandolero racing career.

“He’s the best in the business when it comes to Bandoleros,” Coffey said of Gordon. “There’s no one I would have rather raced Bandoleros with. We became family. I am forever grateful to him and his family for all the success and everything they taught me along the way. “If anyone is looking for help racing Bandoleros, Mike Gordon is the man. Trust me, there is no one better than him.”

This year in Dirt Late Model competition under the tutelage of crew chief and mentor Jeff Smith, Coffey has already struck gold on six occasions with wins at Beckley, Natural Bridge and Fayetteville Motor Speedway.

“It’s crazy that we’ve been so successful so quickly racing Dirt Late Models,” said Coffey, who mainly races in the 602 Late Model class. “Working with Jeff has been incredible, and I look forward to putting all my focus into racing on dirt.”

Wyatt Coffey would like to thank Mike Gordon and the Gordon family, his mom, dad, poppy, Jeff and Zack, Tonya McCallister and MPM Marketing, Longhorn by Wesley Page and his sponsors Coltman Farms Racing, Charlie Obaugh Chevrolet GMC, JWR Services, ArborLife Professional Tree Care, United Tire & Auto, Bradley’s Trucking, R&M Automotive, Bennett’s Hometown Garage, Browns New Life Services, Payne’s Enterprises, Todd Rental, Mt.
